What Fitness Means To Me
Fitness means so many different things to people. The very definition simply means to be adaptable. I have always considered myself adaptable. One might look at me, though, and not consider me fit.
I'm not all muscle. I'm not completely toned. I simply enjoy working out and eating healthy. So, I believe that makes me fit. I'm proving I'm adaptable. I adapt on a daily basis to the things around me.
Just because I do not have a 6 pack of abs or I'm above average for my body fat percentage does not mean I'm not fit. I might not be a gym rat or someone who NEEDS to have muscles, but I am working on a healthier lifestyle. That, to me, is fit. Someone who is trying to be better. Someone who is trying to improve oneself. Someone who is trying to make it in life.
So, being fit to me is someone who is constantly trying to improve oneself, and those around them.
Being HEALTHY is someone who is consciously choosing to make decisions about their habits on a day to day basis. Do I truly need those fries to survive? No? Okay. I'll pass on those. But I will have that salad that will fill me up. Someone who is healthy, to me, is someone who is going above and beyond to make sure they are not over indulging. Someone who is making sure that they are fueling their bodies with natural foods. Someone who reaches for the banana instead of the bag of chips.
But, with being healthy also comes balance. So yes, maybe you do make more health conscious decisions on a daily basis, but do you have a healthy balance? Are you all about the nutrition and not about feeding the soul? Sometimes, you do need to indulge and have an ice cream cone or a piece of chocolate. Sometimes, the occasion calls for cake or cupcakes, and you should let yourself have it. But the key is balance and moderation.
A cupcake EVERYday is not balance. A cupcake every now and then is acceptable! Just don't feel guilty about it. It's acceptable and you are making healthy, soulful decisions sometimes. Soulful decisions can sometimes be the best decisions you can make. Love your body, your mind, and your soul, and, I believe, everything will fall in to place.
